David Ayling

It is with deep regret that we report that David Ayling has passed away.

David Ayling

We are very sorry to tell you that David Ayling passed away on the 31st October after a long illness.

David will be remembered for his enthusiasm and technical know how when he and the other Dave's became the "Three Amigos" (or the "Three Dave's") of the backstage crew.  His bolchy, but laid back, attitude and good humour was the glue that held the team together.  With new ideas and a technical know how, David was instrumental in starting long needed (and revolutionary) improvments such as standardising the flats to a smaller more maneagable size.

He was also very vocal about making changes to the theatre, especially the foyer, and his input on this and all matters was much appreciated.

Given how well liked he was and the impact he made whilst he was with us it was amazing that to find that his set building credits lasted only for one year (from October 2022 until August 2023).

His partner, Deborah Murray, said that David absolutely loved his time at HIADS and wished he’d joined sooner.

He’ll be sorely missed.

David's funeral service will be at The Oaks in Havant at 1.45pm on Thursday 28th November. Arrangements for the wake will be announced nearer the time.

A memorial page is going to be set up for donations to Rowans Hospice which we’ll let you know about as soon as possible. No flowers please.

Please let Dave Ellis know if you want to come to the funeral and wake so Deborah can organise catering.
